Getting Started in the Haunt Industry – Morning Session

Are you thinking about getting into the haunted attraction industry or have you had problems meeting required codes?  Are you aware states and local code officials could be enforcing new standards for meeting disability requirements?   Whether you are new to the industry or a veteran haunter having problems meeting code requirements; this class could save you many hours of lost time and thousands of dollars in mistakes and penalties.

How do the national codes and standards affect the operation of a haunted attraction? This seminar is designed to explore the national voluntary standards that have been adopted throughout the United States and give the participant a fundamental understanding of the codes and standards that impact the Haunted Attraction industry.

Topics covered include Building Code requirements; Entrance & Exits, Emergency Exits, Setting Building Capacities, Passages/Walkways, Electrical systems, Emergency lights, Exit signs and Stairs.

Additional topics for Fire Code requirements include; Fire extinguishers, Heat and smoke detectors, Alarm systems and Sprinkler systems.

This presentation will offer practical suggestions on code compliance, design suggestions and options for typical variances that can be requested.  A brief discussion will be held on the history of the code and how you might affect future changes.

We’ll host a question and answer session the last 30 minutes of the class.  Submit your challenges with fire or building codes and we’ll do our best to provide you with guidance for compliance.

D. Bruce Larcomb, PE, PS, FSFPE has been involved with building and fire safety for over forty years. His experience with the insurance industry, state fire marshal, code development associations, state building authority and consulting gives him a unique perspective on the subject of code enforcement relating to building and fire safety.  He is particularly proud of his grade of fellow with the Society of Fire protection Engineers. Bruce currently serves as the OSPE President. He also serves as a consultant for the review of candidates applying to take PE, PS and EI exams offered by the Ohio Board of Registration for Professional Engineers and Surveyors.  In recent years he has provided expert services on a number of legal cases and is a consultant to those needing safety code solutions.
